Eclogite, any member of a small group of igneous and metamorphic rocks whose composition is similar to that of basalt. Eclogites consist primarily of green pyroxene (omphacite) and red garnet (pyrope), with small amounts of various other stable minerals— e.g., rutile. Eclogite is an extreme metamorphic rock, formed by regional metamorphism of basalt rock under very high pressure and temperature. Eclogite is available in black, brown, colourless, green, grey, pink, white colors. The streak of a rock is the color of powder produced when it is dragged across an unweathered surface.
